Guest lecture with Christina Scheffler
Dr. Christina Scheffler is the Head of Cluster Multiphase Systems and Research Group Fiber-Engineering at Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research (Dresden, Germany), she is leading group “Reinforcing fibres and Interphase Characterization”, and she is also affiliated with the Technischen Universität Dresden where she supervises PhD students.
Her expertise is in the field of glass and polymer fiber manufacturing by melt spinning, surface modification (e.g. glass, carbon, basalt) for fiber-reinforced polymers and concrete matrix as well as micromechanical composite testing. During her visit (Week 40, 2023) at Luleå University of Technology she participated in the extended group meeting of Polymeric Composite Materials, where she was welcomed by the group members.
During the meeting colleagues from Luleå University of Technology described their activities and presented topics in which they hope to involve Dr. Christina Scheffler in the future. Likewise, Christina presented activities and projects that she is running at IPF and TU Dresden. The first common meeting with colleagues at Luleå University of Technology showed that there are number of topics where Dr. Scheffler can bring in new knowledge and support activities within the Group of Polymeric Composites. During her stay Dr. Scheffler also gave lecture for the Department of Engineering Science and Mathematics on design of interfaces in composites from perspective of environmentally friendlier materials and sustainability. This topic is of most importance for materials research at Luleå University of Technology and as showed by interest from the department faculty there is potential for involving Christina in research not only within Group of Polymeric Composites but also in activities of other subjects at Department of Engineering Science and Mathematics.
Roberts Joffe, Chair Professor in Polymeric Composite Materials: “In my opinion Christina will significantly strengthen our research capabilities within polymer composites but also within other subjects where expertise in surface modification is required. In particular, it is good to see that she is very active in research towards renewable materials with sustainability and circularity in focus. I can say that Dr. Christina Scheffler is an excellent researcher but also person with great personality and this combination is perfect for establishing collaborations as well as new projects at Luleå University of Technology. I am looking forward to long term, fruitful collaboration which will lead us to new, exiting discoveries and achievements.”
