Hello student association!
In addition to unions and sections, there are about twenty student associations and organizations that you can get involved in alongside your studies at LTU. Meet the women's choir Embla, which was founded in 2011 and will sing in the center restaurant in Luleå on Wednesday at 12.
Hello student association! Who are you?
- We are a choir at LTU aimed at women, including transgender and non-binary. We were founded in 2011 by some girls in Lulespexet who felt that there was a need for a women's choir at the university. Early on in Embla's history, we had a pirate theme in much of what we did, such as songs and traditions. But since Embla, according to Nordic mythology, is the first woman and was created by an elm tree, we have in recent years had more focus on that in our traditions and that's why we have a tree in our logo.
How often do you meet?
- We have rehearsals once a week and in addition we have full day rehearsals and team building every reading period, then we meet more often for concerts and singing. We also have a newly introduced tradition of having one session per semester together with Manskören Snapsakademien, with whom we have a strong collaboration.
What are your public activities?
- Every semester we have open rehearsals where everyone is welcome to try singing with us. In addition, we have a concert every semester, a Christmas concert and a spring concert that are open for everyone to come and watch.
How does a student become a member of Embla?
- At the beginning of each semester we have an admission period in connection with our open rehearsals. Then you can come and try to sing with us and then we book an audition with those who want to apply.
Finally, what is the best thing about studying at LTU?
- The best thing is the great mix of people who gather in one place, while there is both education and student life for everyone. You can easily find people with the same interests as you.
