Four-time gold medallist at the Student World Championships
On Monday, LTU student Elin Schagerström secured her third individual gold medal in a row at the World Student Ski Orienteering Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. She also won gold in the mixed relay. She is studying the Master Programme in Architectural Engineering at Luleå University of Technology as part of a special initiative to combine top-class sport and university studies.
“I am very happy with my performance! The courses were fun and I got into the flow. I combined my skiing with orienteering well and I'm super satisfied, Elin Schagerström says.
Three individual gold medals in a row
On Friday Elin Schagerström won the sprint, on Saturday she also won the race and on Monday she won again, then in the middle distance pursuit. That makes three individual victories in three days at the Student World Championships, one victory per day and distance. She also won gold in the mixed relay together with Jonatan Ståhl, with a lead of two and a half minutes over Switzerland. It was a gilded World Student Championships for Elin Schagerstroem, who now travels on to the Senior World Championships in Ramsau from 23 to 27 January.
Elin Schagerström trains daily in skiing and ski orienteering together with other elite sport-orientated students at Luleå University of Technology. Elin is supported by Joakim Abrahamsson in skiing and Claes Turesson in orienteering.
