"Would love to stay here in the industry"
Emma Lundgren is a fifth-year student of engineering physics and is currently completing her thesis. She was also one of two participants from the university in the Female Technical Engineer 2024 talent program.
Tell me, what kind of thesis are you doing?
"I'm doing my thesis at a company called Optimation. The thesis is about something called digital twins. You do a simulation of a process in industry that creates a digital model."
You are in your final year of technical physics, did you have an idea of what the program would lead to?
"I knew it would be a lot of math and physics. But I was a little more into electronics and systems and control engineering, into more practical things like solving problems in electronics. I like problem solving and I knew early on that I wanted to do that. I have stuck to this with control engineering and simulations, it's so much fun! I would like to work with that in industry, for example to help industry produce more and at the same time reduce energy consumption by controlling pumps and other things in an optimal way. I find that very interesting."
How were you attracted to Female Technical Engineer?
"I have seen previous students who have been involved and I have thought that the arrangement seems interesting to meet companies around Sweden and work with different cases. This year it was extra interesting as they have several regional companies involved and not just companies in Stockholm. Then I felt that this is something for me. I'm from Lycksele and I like snow and Norrland and I would love to stay here in the industry."
You have also been involved in SRT Include, tell us about this!
"t's for girls in the computer section, where I was one of the project managers. I'm passionate about girls wanting to study technology courses. SRT Include exists to create a cohesion among the girls who are here."
What has been the best thing about studying at Luleå University of Technology these years?
"Wow, we have had a very good cohesion. Always had someone to discuss their education with and it has been very nice. Then there has been Covid in the middle of everything, but we are still several who stick together. I also feel very good in Luleå and that you can get student life in one place and at the same time be close to nature!'
