Minister for Education Mats Persson visited Luleå University of Technology
During his visit, the Minister met with the university's management, student unions and researchers from some of the university's strong research environments.
The dialogues during the day spanned several sectors. The need to strengthen research on innovation-critical metals and minerals, the climate issue, the consequences of the changing security situation and an increasing focus on space - areas where the university has a strong position and where the university collaborates with leading national and international actors.
The Minister of Education was given the opportunity to have an open and cordial conversation with representatives of the student unions, including the importance of having students on campus, a dialog that was greatly appreciated by all participants.
"It has been a good day with interesting and inspiring conversations and I hope that Mats Persson will take some of the challenges and opportunities we identified together with him in his future work on the research and innovation bill," says Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
The day also included meetings with the university's researchers active in the Wallenberg initiatives WISE and WASP, where the overall aim is to create environments for excellent research in materials science for sustainability and AI, autonomous systems and software.
The visit ended with a visit to the university's Concept Lab where the minister met the research group in Robotics and AI and met the robot dog Spot, something that aroused great interest in the minister!
