The Opportunities and Challenges of Hydrogen in Focus
Mikael Börjesson, a prominent development leader with over 40 years of experience from both industry and academia, has been appointed the new chairman of Luleå University of Technology's hydrogen initiative, CH2ESS (Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden). Mikael Börjesson has had a long career in innovation and IT development and has served as an advisor at both the national and international levels. He has also founded six companies and currently runs his own business.
"Hydrogen is a technology with both great opportunities and challenges. This makes it a field where successful research and business development can thrive," says Mikael Börjesson.
Broad Experience in Innovation
In addition to his new role, Mikael Börjesson is active in his own company, Aialax AB, where he helps companies work more systematically and effectively with innovation and development. He also has a long history at Luleå University of Technology, where for more than 15 years he led the establishment of the CDT (Centre for Distance-Spanning Technology).
"I feel that my experience from previous collaborations between academia and industry can be of great benefit to CH2ESS and the hydrogen initiative."
Future Goals
One of the first tasks will be to further familiarize himself with the operations and create an overview of the various needs and interests within CH2ESS. In collaboration with the management team and steering group, Mikael Börjesson will work to define an initial focus for his work before the end of the year.
"It’s important that my goals as chairman align with the organization’s long-term objectives. My first step will be to immerse myself in the work and see how we can best contribute to the development."
In the long term, Mikael Börjesson hopes that CH2ESS will contribute to the creation of more new companies, patents, and international recognition for Sweden's hydrogen research.
Ambition to Become a Leader in Hydrogen
Mikael Börjesson sees several ways he can contribute to CH2ESS’s goal of becoming a leading knowledge-based player in the hydrogen sector, both in the Nordic region and Europe. He also sees great potential for small and medium-sized enterprises to become an important part of the continued development of hydrogen technology.
"We have good conditions to establish CH2ESS as a central knowledge hub and innovation platform for hydrogen technology and sustainable energy systems. It is an exciting field with great opportunities for both research and entrepreneurship."
Cecilia Wallmark, Director of CH2ESS, looks forward to Mikael Börjesson's upcoming contributions to the organization. After three successful years, it is now time for CH2ESS to strengthen its structure and direction further.
"I welcome our new chairman, who will help us continue to develop our work and sharpen our focus", says Cecilia Wallmark.
