"Together we lift the weight from our shoulders, one lantern at a time"
Ljusveckan is organized by Studenthälsan together with the student unions at Luleå University of Technology. It is a week that will light up in the dark and focus on well-being with lots of interesting lectures and activities.
A novelty for this year is that the week ends with rice lanterns being sent up into the sky from Heden at Campus Luleå and Fåröbron at Campus Piteå. The inspiration comes from Chinese culture, says Eugen Larsson, HSSO at Teknologkåren & Luleå Student Union.
"I thought of the Chinese culture, with how they send away rice lanterns to symbolize perseverance, which is something I thought we in Norrbotten could take part in."
250 rice lanterns have been purchased. The hope is to attract as many people to participate in this event, which Eugen hopes will become a tradition at the university.
"It would be great if as many people as possible showed up and saw the dark sky filled with light. I want it to be a symbol of hope for the future with these dark months ahead. Together, we are lifting the weight from our shoulders, one lantern at a time. We want to give a big thank you to Student Health and the University Church for funding this."
