Nomination Committee for the Swedish Research Council is led by researchers at Luleå University of Technology
Roine Viklund has been appointed chairman of the nomination committee of the Swedish Research Council's Scientific Council for Humanities and Social Sciences. This is the first time that the chairmanship is held by a researcher at Luleå University of Technology. Viklund was also elected as representative in the nomination nommittee for the Swedish Research Council's Scientific Council Board.
The Swedish Research Council is Sweden's largest government research funding body. Its board consists of a chair and eight members. The chair and two of the members are appointed by the government. The other six members are appointed by Sweden's universities.
Under the board, there are three scientific councils that are responsible for allocating research funding and monitoring and evaluating research within their respective subject areas. The subject councils also appoint the review panels that prepare all research applications received each year in the various calls. One of these is the Council for Humanities and Social Sciences. It is Roine Viklund's task, as chair of the nomination committee, to lead its six members in the work of producing proposals for candidates for the Scientific Council. In total, 165 electors from the country's colleges and universities vote on the Nomination Committee's proposals.
The Nomination Committee for the Scientific Council has been elected by 55 representatives (electors) from the country's higher education institutions.
The nomination process is now underway. It is important that there is a broad representation among the nominees, both in terms of gender and geographical spread. It is also important that the nomination process itself is perceived as legitimate by the College.
“It is a great declaration of confidence to be appointed as Chair of the Nomination Committee. One reason why I was considered suitable was probably that I have long been interested in research policy and that I have a large network in the research world, both in my own research subject, history, as well as in other humanities and social sciences”, says Roine Viklund.
