They received the university's awards in 2024
During the ceremony, this year's recipients of the university's pedagogical award, the awards excellent and meritorious teacher and the recipients of the award for development efforts in the business support were presented.
- Our teachers shape the future by educating the future builders. Good teachers can inspire joy, interest, understanding and confidence. That is why I am both proud and happy that the university has so many committed and skilled teachers. Today we want to recognise and celebrate those teachers who have made a particularly strong impression through their efforts,’ said Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
The award for development efforts in Professional Services recognises staff who work in the background.
- ‘In order for our activities to maintain high quality in education and research, we also need a professional support. The award for development efforts in Professional Services will make visible and highlight the importance of the employees who, through their efforts, commitment and cooperation, contribute to the development of the entire university,’ said Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
University´s Pedagogical Award
The University's Pedagogical Award is given to teachers who have made outstanding contributions to education programmes. In the work of quality development of programmes and courses, the university wants to reward teachers who in an exemplary way promote good education, good learning environment and increased quality in learning. In its assessment, the jury also looks at the criteria for Innovative Education.
This year's Pedagogical Award goes to Françoise Dubois, Lecturer in Education and Peter Parnes, Professor of Distributed Computing Systems.
Françoise Dubois is an inspiring force in education, creating learning environments where interactivity, participation and reflection are at the centre. Peter Parnes has made significant contributions to the field of computer technology and strives to combine academic studies with new technologies. 2024´s recognized and distinguished teachers
The teachers who this year receive the award recognized teacher are Peter Parnes and Karolina Parding.
A recognized teacher must have teaching experience beyond that required for the merit level. In addition, excellent teachers must demonstrate organisational skills, pedagogical leadership and good dissemination of knowledge, for example through collaboration with colleagues and the surrounding community.
This year, there are nine teachers at Luleå University of Technology who receive the award distinguished teacher. They are Josefin Bäckström, Camilla Grane, Andreas Johansson, Hans Mattson, Kent Nilsson, Johanna Sundbaum, Erica Hagström, Malin Lidström Brock and Sandeep Patil.
A distinguished teacher must have teaching experience beyond what is required for employment as a teacher at Luleå University of Technology. To become a distinguished teacher, skill in planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching is also required, as well as commitment in the meeting with the students.
Students receive scholarships from the Rune and Märta Ström Foundation
The students who this year will each receive a scholarship of SEK 25,000 from the Rune and Märta Ström Foundation are Erik Holmbom, Maja Lindström, Henny Norberg and Mattias Öhman.
Scholarships from the foundation go to students from Norrbotten, studying the second or third year at Luleå University of Technology in the programmes included in the areas of systems engineering, mechanical engineering and technology and design and can show good study results. The scholarship is used for future studies.
The best thesis is awarded by the Björn Wahlström Foundation
Bernardo Filizzola receives a scholarship of SEK 25,000 for the best thesis on mining and iron production from the Björn Wahlström Foundation.
Bernardo Filizzola's thesis examined the factors that trigger seismic activity in the Kiirunavaara mine and also proposed ways to reduce the seismic risk, which are important conclusions that LKAB has learnt. The recipient could not attend the Award Ceremony and the award will be sent to him.
Recipients of the VSS award for the development of a research data platform
Parvaneh Westerlund, Johanna Cinber and Sofi Larsson from the University Library receives this year's award for good development efforts within Professional Services. The trio has successfully worked to implementing the research data platform LTU Drive.
The award for development efforts within Professional Services, or the VSS Award as it is also called, is intended to highlight the importance of the employees who, through their efforts, commitment and cooperation, contribute to the university's development.
