The university celebrated professors, doctors and award winners
During this year's Academic Ceremony at Luleå University of Technology, doctors and honorary doctors received their hats, professors were inaugurated, adjunct professors were welcomed and academic prizes were awarded. It was celebrated on Saturday with a solemn ceremony and subsequent banquet.
“This ceremony is first and foremost a tribute to the commitment and determined efforts of today's protagonists to promote scientific progress. It is also an opportunity for the university to highlight the importance of collaboration between researchers around the world, as well as our interaction with the surrounding society,” said Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn in her opening speech.
In her speech, Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn highlighted the Academy's role in a democratic free society.
“Democracy and academia both promote an open and inclusive society, where the search for truth and knowledge, critical thinking and debate, openness and transparency, and freedom to express ideas and opinions are at the center.”
New titles, doctoral hats and awards
The four recipients of honorary doctorates were Karin Bodin, CEO of Polarbrödsgruppen, author Elin Anna Labba, former concert hall manager Stefan Forsberg and author Lars Gyllenhaal. Ten Doctors of Philosophy and 37 Doctors of Technology received their doctoral hats, five new professors were inaugurated and three new adjunct professors were welcomed during the ceremony in Kulturens hus.
