Pär Weihed to investigate research e-infrastructure
The Swedish Research Council has been commissioned to submit proposals on how Swedish research e-infrastructure can be developed. The council has appointed Pär Weihed, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology, as investigator for the comission.
Research e-infrastructure is of crucial importance for Sweden's ability to be one of the world's leading research and innovation countries and a leading knowledge nation. The increased need for resources for storing, transferring, calculating and analysing data covers all research areas and disciplines.
Responsibility for e-infrastructure is currently divided between several organisations with different principals, which leads to a lack of coordination and a lack of national strategy work. Against this background, the Swedish Research Council has been commissioned by the government to make proposals on how work on e-infrastructure can be organised and coordinated.
High-priority issue
The Swedish Research Council has appointed Pär Weihed as investigator for the comission. Pär Weihed is Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology and has experience of working with the universities' reference group for research infrastructure.
“I humbly take on this very important assignment. It has been a high priority issue for a long time and as all research becomes increasingly digitised, it is important that we find a sustainable solution to meet the needs of the future,” says Pär Weihed.
The comission includes communicating with universities and colleges and obtaining the views of a large number of funding bodies, authorities, organisations and other stakeholders.
Charlotte Hall, who participated in the work of the research funding inquiry, will be the investigation secretary.
