Hello student association!
Meet the jester group Phire, Norrbotten's largest jester group, which during December is frequently seen around Norrbotten with fire shows and circus activities.
Hello student association! Who are you?
"We are jester group Phire, Norrbotten's largest jester group. We do different types of circus and jester. We are open to anyone who wants to learn circus and things like juggling, unicycling, acrobatics and other things that fall within "flow-arts" and object manipulation.
The association itself was founded in 2011 and has since become a recurring feature at various events in Luleå and the surrounding area, including at sittings at STUK and festivals. There we perform with circus, fire show and LED show.
We act as a study circle under Folkuniversitetet. They help us with organization, structure, room rental and other things in our business. This is done as part of Folkbildningen."
How often do you meet?
"Phire has classes 3 times a week:
- Mondays in Porsöskolans gymnasium at 18:00-19:30
- Tuesdays in room A3101a at LTU at 16:30-18:30
- Fridays in Porsöhallen B at 17:00-19:00
In addition, we have performances with fire and light from time to time."
What kind of activities do you have?
"During the regular classes we have different kinds of circus activities. Now in December we also have a number of performances going on. Most of these are open to the public so please come along if you want to see a fire show or try your hand at circus."
How do you become a member of Phire?
"To become a member, you start by coming to a regular class and trying it out. All sessions are open. The first three sessions are free so you have time to try and see all the different things and see what you like. If you want to continue after that, you need to pay a membership fee, which is SEK 100 per half year (January-August or June-December)."
What is the best thing about your association?
"The openness of the association. There is no requirement for attendance or prior knowledge. You don't have to participate in shows and performances if you don't want to or if you don't have time. The best part is that there is coffee every Tuesday. In addition, the association offers dinner about once a month during an association evening."
