Hello colleague! Mirjam guides students to success
Mirjam Josbrant is an educational developer in learning support and information resources. She is passionate about helping students achieve their goals. When she's not in the library or Beta House, she finds inspiration in nature - or in the encounter with exciting flavours and smells.
What do you do at work?
"I work in various ways to develop and offer support to students, in information retrieval, academic writing, study strategies or presentation skills. This can mean providing individual tutoring, conducting workshops in study strategies or presentation techniques, staffing drop-in tutoring, developing self-help materials or guides, shaping study environments in the library room that meet students' needs or coordinating SI activities at the university together with my colleague Karin, and more.
When it comes to support in study strategies, the study coach Rebecka Selberg Zolland and I work closely together. Among other things, we give lectures on studying smart and sometimes we hold afternoon tea where we meet the students in a more simple and undemanding form and they get the opportunity to share their tips on studying smart."
What is the best thing about your job?
"It may sound cliché, but the best thing is all the people meetings. Meeting students, colleagues, library visitors and many more. I always work on site, because I feel and enjoy it the most and also feel that I can perform my tasks in the best way, when I get to meet people in real life"
What have you worked with before?
"Previously, I have worked at SFI (Swedish for immigrants) at Vuxenutbildningen. It was a very fun, enriching and developing job in many ways. I worked there for seven years and really enjoyed working with students and colleagues. At one point, we were working on the cover letter text type and I was scanning job ads for the students to work on to formulate and design a cover letter. While browsing through the job ads, I found one that piqued my interest "educational developer at the university library". I read the description and it seemed so exciting that I had to write a cover letter and CV myself, and then apply for the position."
What do you like to do in your spare time?
"If it's late summer or fall, I like to be out in the woods picking blueberries, yellow chanterelles or funnel chanterelles. If there is no time for berry or mushroom picking, I like to go to both wine tastings and wine courses. I am a member of the Munskänkarna and I think it is really fun and educational to explore the world of wine and together with other curious people also eat and drink well."
