A student-focused restaurant environment - and a naming competition for the future
Through an extensive survey and a workshop with student representatives and the student unions, we have gathered your views on how the central restaurant area on Campus Luleå should be developed. The result is clear - you want a vibrant, flexible and pleasant environment that works just as well for studies as for social meetings.
With these insights, we and Akademiska Hus are now working to create a place that both improves a previously less optimal space and meets your needs. In addition, we invite you to a naming competition to create an identity for the new environment - what should the place be called?
You can contribute here!
As part of the development, we are launching a naming competition to create an identity for the new environment. We look forward to your creative suggestions on what the place should be called! The winning proposal will be rewarded with an LTU hoodie.
The jury consists of the steering group for the project:
Maria Lundgren (University Director), Mia Oldenburg, Pär Weihed (Pro Vice-Chancellor), Robert Byström (Akademiska Hus), Rikard Paulsson (Akademiska Hus), Charlotta Johansson (Head of SBN), Fredrik Edfast, Andrea Luciani (Architecture SBN) and Oscar Gamez Bohorquez (Architecture SBN).
The dialog with you, our students, has provided us with a number of important insights and guidelines for the future. Now the renovation will start shortly and we look forward to presenting a brand new center restaurant space in 2025.
Key insights and guidelines
- A space that puts the student in focus.
You want an environment that works for more hours of the day, where you can combine studying and socializing. Instead of a traditional restaurant with study areas, the space should be designed as study areas where it is also possible to eat and have a coffee. - Variation and flexibility
An important aspect is to create smaller spaces and varied furnishings. There should be a separate area for representative lunches and a flexible area for both studies, food and booked events. Easily movable furniture provides the opportunity to adapt the flexible space as needed. - A pleasant and inspiring environment
To create an inviting atmosphere, it is important to include elements of greenery and natural materials such as wood and textile curtains. The sound environment should be adapted for both conversation and concentration, and the lighting should support different activities. - Food and accessibility
In addition to a restaurant that serves lunch and coffee, a microland is needed for students and staff with takeaway food. There is also a desire for the area to be used throughout the day and evening. - Safety and interaction
The environment should feel safe and welcoming. There will be a passage between buildings B and Beta to further enhance the flow and use of the area.
