Janet Lin receives IEEE Reliability Engineer of the Year award and new roles

Janet Lin, Associate Professor in Operation and Maintenance at Luleå University of Technology, has been awarded the prestigious Reliability Engineer of the Year 2024 by the IEEE Reliability Society. She has also been elected Vice President of Publications for the IEEE Reliability Society and appointed as a Distinguished Lecturer within IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE). These honors and roles recognize her outstanding work in reliability engineering and her global influence in the field.

IEEE Reliability Engineer of the Year

Janet Lin, Associate Professor at Luleå University of Technology, has been awarded the IEEE Reliability Society’s Annual Reliability Engineer of the Year Award 2024. This prestigious award is given to only one recipient globally each year, recognizing her exceptional leadership in significantly increasing global membership and fostering engagement within the IEEE Reliability Society. The Annual Reliability Engineer of the Year Award will be officially presented at a ceremony in June 9-11, 2025, Denvor, CO, USA, where Janet’s contributions to reliability engineering and her leadership within the IEEE Reliability Society will be celebrated.

In addition to this award, Janet has been re-elected to the IEEE Reliability Society Administrative Committee (AdCom) for the 2025–2027 term and the Executive Committee (ExCom), where she will take on a new leadership role as Vice President of Publications starting in 2025. She is the only ExCom member from outside North America, further enhancing Luleå University of Technologys global visibility in reliability engineering research and leadership.

As Vice President of Publications, Janet will play a key strategic role in shaping the future of IEEE Reliability Society’s scientific publications, including:

This role positions Janet at the forefront of advancing high-impact reliability research and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across the IEEE publication ecosystem.

Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Reliability Society

In addition to her leadership roles, Janet has been recognized as an IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Distinguished Lecturer for her lecture:
"Revitalizing Bayesian Reliability: Bridging Traditions and Innovations through MCMC Approaches."

She is the one of few Distinguished Lecturer (DL) of the IEEE Reliability Society and has now also been appointed as an IEEE WIE Distinguished Lecturer, representing the IEEE Reliability Society on a global platform. Her lecture is available through the IEEE WIE Distinguished Lecturer Program, aiming to inspire engineers and researchers worldwide by merging traditional reliability practices with modern Bayesian methodologies.
