Physics professor wins international award
Alberto Vomiero, professor of experimental physics at Luleå University of Technology, has been awarded the prestigious Global Ambassador Award at the 49th International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC2025) in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The award is presented annually by the American Ceramic Society to recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership and service within the global ceramics and glass community.
Professor Vomiero leads a research team focused on developing innovative materials for renewable energy and environmental protection. His work spans from next-generation solar cells to green hydrogen production and water desalination using sunlight. Over the years, he has built a vast international network of collaborations across Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia.
Developing innovative materials
“There are two main factors that influence the awarding of the prize concerning my research activity, the demonstration of the importance and effectiveness of advanced ceramic materials for the development and use of renewable energy sources, and the creation of a globally spread research network that enables student and researcher mobility, aiming to foster scientific and technological growth, particularly in developing countries.” says Alberto Vomiero
His international collaborations also play a key role in the UNESCO Chair “Technologies and Materials for Green and Energy Applications” (Aid4GEA), a joint initiative between Luleå University of Technology and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where Vomiero serves as co-chair.
