Åsa Sköld new Director of Internal Audit
Since the beginning of May, Luleå University of Technology has a new Director of Internal Audit. Åsa Sköld is a lawyer who likes to find out how things work and how they can be even better.
Hi Åsa, what does an internal audit director do?
”The internal audit reviews and makes suggestions for improvements to the authority's process for internal governance and control. As Director of Internal Audit at Luleå University of Technology, I both lead and perform the work that is reported to the University Board. I am on my own in the internal audit function, but occasionally take the help of an external party who handles certain audits.
Essentially, it's about providing assurance and value to the organisation by reviewing, evaluating and making constructive suggestions for improvement. When internal audit comes to a certain part of the organisation, it is an opportunity for employees to express what is working and what can be improved; they should feel comfortable telling me.”
What is your background?
”I am a lawyer educated at Uppsala University and have since 2013 worked at authorities, both at courts and administrative authorities. Most recently, I come from the County Administrative Board where I worked with the supervision of municipal organisations and foundations.”
What are you looking forward to in your new role at Luleå University of Technology?
“I like to find out how things work and how they can be improved. I am driven by helping others and look forward to being part of the organisation and together making it even better.”
What do you do when you're not working?
“I spend time with my son and my friends. I like to do crafts at home and in the garden. I also enjoy being in nature and orienteering. In the summers I spend a lot of time in the archipelago where my family has a cottage.”
