Architecture programme celebrates 20 years with anniversary event and student exhibition
The Master’s programme in Architectural Engineering at Luleå University of Technology recently marked its 20th anniversary. The day began with a celebration at Vetenskapens hus in central Luleå, bringing together alumni, current students, staff and guests. Later in the afternoon, the spotlight shifted to Shopping galleria where a student exhibition opened to the public.
“This anniversary highlights a long-standing commitment to interdisciplinary education, where architecture and engineering come together to support sustainable development,” said Agatino Rizzo, Professor of Architecture at Luleå University of Technology.

The morning programme offered reflections on how the education has evolved over the years. Former students shared their career experiences, and discussions explored how the architect’s role is changing in response to societal challenges.
Visions of a sustainable future – from student perspective
In the afternoon, the exhibition Planning for the future opened at Slöjd & Formcenter in Shopping galleria. It showcases a selection of student projects from the 2024/2025 academic year, each addressing current challenges in northern Sweden through thoughtful design and sustainable engineering.
“The exhibition offers a glimpse into how tomorrow’s professionals think, explore and challenge existing norms – and how the green transition is reshaping the built environment,” says Agatino Rizzo.

The projects reflect a wide range of themes, from sustainable urban planning to innovative use of materials and long-term environmental thinking.
The exhibition is open to the public from 23 May to 12 October and is a collaboration between Arctic Design Center, Luleå University of Technology, and Slöjd & Formcenter.
