Luleå University of Technology Honorary Doctors for 2025
Luleå University of Technology has appointed three honorary doctors for 2025: Joachim Nordin, CEO of Skellefteå Kraft Group, Petra Viklund, Head of Water and Sewage at Luleå Miljöresurs (Lumire), and Lennart Rohdin, former government special inquiry chair on rights of national minorities and minority languages in Sweden.
Joachim Nordin, CEO of Skellefteå Kraft Group, has been appointed Honorary Doctor of Technology, in part for his leadership in steering the company’s transformation towards a sustainable society. Over the years, Nordin and Skellefteå Kraft have maintained strong ties with Luleå University of Technology, supporting both cutting-edge research and education. Skellefteå Kraft has contributed to the university's electrical power engineering programme since its inception in 2011.
“I’m honoured and deeply pleased to be appointed honorary doctor at Luleå University of Technology. It makes me proud to see our efforts at Skellefteå Kraft recognised in the context of societal transformation. This recognition also energises and motivates me to continue contributing to the public dialogue on this critical issue. I value the collaborations we’ve built with LTU, which will remain vital for both us and the future. After all, transformation is something we achieve most successfully together,” says Joachim Nordin.
Petra Viklund, Head of Water and Sewage at Luleå Miljöresurs, Lumire, since 2016, has also been appointed Honorary Doctor of Technology, partly for her genuine interest in research that has helped develop and deepen the collaboration between Lumire and Luleå University of Technology. With her knowledge base and enthusiasm, she is passionate about progress and cooperation, demonstrating great commitment to both research and education.
“This recognition is a wonderful surprise and, of course, deeply humbling for someone whose heart beats for Luleå University of Technology. I see it as a testament to the strong collaboration we’ve built over time between Lumire and LTU. Our key has always been applied water research, where we dare to explore new solutions in our local environment. Our ambition is for Luleå to serve as a circular model both nationally and internationally, and this recognition propels us forward,” says Petra Viklund.
Lennart Rohdin, former government special inquiry chair on rights of national minorities and minority languages in Sweden, has been appointed Honorary Doctor of Philosophy at Luleå University of Technology. His work has significantly influenced how authorities and civil society organisations today address minority issues. His efforts are characterised by a deep respect for historical and cultural contexts, and his long-term commitment has had a major impact not only on society at large but also on the university’s research, education, and societal engagement concerning minority languages and minorities.
“I’m both surprised and honoured! I truly appreciate the opportunity this gives to highlight Sweden’s historic minority languages and its national minorities. It helps shine a light on our country’s multicultural history—a history that for far too long was sidelined or ignored, yet is an undeniable part of our shared heritage,” says Lennart Rohdin.
Joachim Nordin, Petra Viklund and Lennart Rohdin will be awarded their doctorates at Luleå University of Technology's academic ceremony in November 2025.
