Takes a seat on the Swedish Research Council's Committee for Engineering Sciences
Roland Larsson, professor of machine elements at Luleå University of Technology, has been elected as a member of the Swedish Research Council's newly formed Committee for Engineering Sciences.
The committee has been created as a reinforcement in the field of technology pending the establishment of a new scientific council. Its mission is to drive the national initiatives highlighted by the government in the Research and Innovation Bill over the coming years, including the initiative for clusters of excellence for groundbreaking technology.
"It is an honor to be elected and it will be exciting to be involved in shaping the Swedish Research Council's technological science focus. Technology has long had an obscure role within the Swedish Research Council," says Roland Larsson.
Research with benefit and sustainability
In his work on the committee, he particularly wants to highlight the link between scientific excellence and societal benefit.
"I would like to see us highlight scientific excellence in combination with benefit and innovation. With research as a basis, we can lead the development towards future sustainable solutions, and I will emphasize the importance of sustainability," says Roland Larsson.
In total, three researchers from Luleå University of Technology are now members of the Swedish Research Council's various committees. For Roland Larsson, it is a sign that the university's research has gained an increasingly strong position nationally.
"One can interpret it as we are now beginning to reach a breadth with extensive excellence, which naturally gives us seats on these committees. The fact that we bring our culture of collaboration, interdisciplinarity and focus on sustainability can influence the Swedish Research Council in this direction. This is of course positive for the university, as our vision always emphasizes collaboration, sustainability and benefit in combination with groundbreaking research," concludes Roland Larsson.
