Åsa Wikberg Nilsson on the board of Svensk Form
In June this year, Åsa Wikberg Nilsson was appointed to the board of Svensk Form (Swedish Design).
“I see the assignment as an important opportunity to contribute to strengthening the role of design in the transition of society. Swedish Design has a unique position as a unifying voice for the design field and I hope to contribute with experience from academia, my research and from co-creative processes, especially on issues related to sustainability, inclusion and the value-creating role of design in complex societal challenges,” she says.
At the same time, urban development strategist Anna Rygård was elected as new chair and designer Fredrik Paulsen – known from Grand Design Renovations – as a new board member.
Åsa Wikberg Nilsson is a professor of design specialising in design and sustainability issues, inclusion and co-creation.
Stronger regional presence
The association is in an intensive phase of development, where the direction is now being put into practice with a stronger regional presence, greater influence on social development and new positions for form and design.
“It has been very inspiring to take part in the work of the Board during the first few months. There is a strong will to drive the development of design's social relevance and a clear ambition to bring together different voices in the field. Right now we are working strategically to clarify how Svensk Form can become even more present throughout the country and how we can create even stronger bridges between practice, business, research and politics,” says Åsa Wikberg Nilsson.
Excellent Swedish Form
In mid-September, Prince Carl Philip, who is the patron of Svensk Form, presented the “Utmärkt Svensk Form” (Excellent Swedsih Form) prize to 12 winners.
“Utmärkt Svensk Form is a prestigious Swedish design award that recognises design that maintains a high aesthetic level, is sustainable and innovative, and also has social relevance. With this award, we want to highlight the value and importance of design and strengthen Sweden's position in the international design arena.”
Founded in 1845, Svensk Form is a non-profit membership organisation and Sweden's national organisation for form and design. With a government commission, Svensk Form works to create commitment and highlight the opportunities design can provide for the individual, culture, society and business. By raising awareness and driving the development of good design in products, services and environments, the organisation works for a sustainable society.
