Joel Lindberg awarded newly established composition prize
Joel Lindberg is the winner of the new composition competition The Jan Sandström Competition. The prize means that he will accompany the Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra on tour until spring 2026. In addition, he will be published by Gehrmans Musikförlag in Stockholm.
The prize was awarded on Monday, December 15 at a ceremony at the School of Music in Piteå. Joel Lindberg comes from Töre in Norrbotten and is currently studying the second year in the Master Programme in Music Performance, specialisation composition, at the School of Music in Piteå, at Luleå University of Technology.
Joel Lindberg describes his winning entry as follows:
“The music in the entry is based on contrasts and depicts mental illness in the form of a persistent anxiety that is pushed away but never addressed and therefore constantly recurs.”
Joel Lindberg is proud and happy about the award:
“I am overwhelmed and very honoured to have won this competition and look forward to hearing my music performed by the Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra.”
