Increased Interest in Our International Programmes
A growing number of people from other countries are applying to Luleå University of Technology’s international programmes. For the autumn term of 2026, more than 7,700 applications have been submitted to one of the university’s international programmes. This represents a 9 per cent increase compared with last year, and the trend shows a steady rise in applicants to the university’s international programmes since 2019.
“It is very positive that interest among international students in studying with us continues to grow. This development is fully in line with our internationalisation strategy at Luleå University of Technology,” says Pär Weihed, Pro Vice-Chancellor at Luleå University of Technology.
Many popular programmes
Luleå University of Technology offers 14 international master’s programmes and 4 bachelor’s programmes. The most popular programmes include International Business, Information Security, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied AI, Space Science and Space Technology, Game Development and Programming, and Mineral Resource Engineering. Students apply from all over the world, particularly from countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe.
LTU is increasing as a first choice
Of the more than 6,500 applicants to the master’s programmes, over 2,500 have listed Luleå University of Technology as their first choice, an increase of 11 per cent compared with the previous year. Among the 1,200 applicants to the bachelor’s programmes, nearly 350 are first-choice applicants, representing a 35 per cent increase from last year.
“Behind these positive application figures lies long-term strategic and operational work aimed at attracting more international students to choose us. They are the result of our investment in offering attractive international programmes within our educational portfolio,” says Pär Weihed.
In recent years, Luleå University of Technology has continuously developed its portfolio of international programmes. This year’s newcomer, Economic Data Analysis, is a good example. The programme has contributed several hundred applicants to this year’s figures.
