Continued preparation of the issue of a new department
Work continues on preparing documentation for a decision on whether LTU should start a new department or not. Several parts of the organization are participating in the work to ensure that the documentation is as complete as possible.
In order to make the best use of the time until the decision is made, and to enable a potential department to start at the turn of the year, several tasks are being carried out simultaneously.
The committees are continuing their investigative work, while the departments and professional services are preparing risk and impact analyses. In addition, work is underway to determine what technical changes are needed in shared systems, such as the payroll system and Ladok, and what administrative changes are required in terms of working methods and procedures. At the same time, preparations are being made for how line issues relating to the new department will be handled before the organization is in place. This may involve, for example, the names of the department and divisions and the internal organization.
Recruitment of head of department
HR has also initiated preparatory work to recruit a head of department. The recruitment will be carried out provided that a decision is made to establish the department.
“Given the short time frame we have, it feels good that all investigations and impact analyses are proceeding according to schedule. The reason for this is, of course, that everyone is working hard and prioritizing the tasks. By working on investigations and preparatory recruitment at the same time, we are creating better conditions for identifying good candidates and ensuring that we have a head of department in place by the turn of the year," says Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn.
Decision in the spring
A decision on whether to establish a new department is expected to be made in the spring. If the decision is yes, the goal is for the department to be in place by the turn of the year 2026–2027.
Background
An external investigation has reviewed the University's artistic activities and proposes that they be consolidated into a new institution. The activities will continue to be based at their respective campuses. The proposal covers musical performance, theatrical performance, design and architecture, and computer game education.
