Students gain unique insight into Boden’s growing visitor economy
A recent site visit to Boden gave 16 students a valuable opportunity to experience and better understand the local labour market first-hand. Throughout the day, participants explored how the visitor economy contributes to the municipality’s development, while also building meaningful connections with industry stakeholders.
The visit began with an introduction to Boden’s labour market and the importance of the visitor economy for the region. Students were given an overview of how tourism and experience-based industries are playing an increasingly important role in the municipality’s growth and attractiveness.
One of the first stops was Stegra’s observation tower, where students learned about plans for the new steel plant. Particular emphasis was placed on the significant skills demand and how industrial development creates new opportunities, not least through collaboration with other sectors such as tourism.
The visit continued to Storklinten, where lunch was served in a natural setting. Here, students gained insight into the facility’s development work and how it is strategically addressing future needs in terms of both offerings and skills supply. The day then continued to Harads, with visits to Arctic Bath and Villa Äng, where students experienced how small-scale, internationally sought-after experiences are created through the interplay of quality, design and sustainability.
The visit concluded at Bryggmästaren in Boden with dinner and an international after-work event. This provided students with the opportunity to meet new residents of Boden, gain further perspectives on the development of the visitor economy, and reflect on the day while expanding their professional networks.
Overall, the site visit offered a comprehensive perspective on how Boden’s business sector is evolving at the intersection of industry and the visitor economy, as well as the future demand for skills. For the students, it was an inspiring experience that opened up new insights and potential career pathways.
