MFA - Multi-factor authentication
Many systems at LTU require that you have the ability to perform a multi-factor authentication similar to what you do when you log in to the bank with a security token or mobile BankID.
Setting up multi-factor authentication
You will need both your computer and your mobile phone to follow this guide.
Step 1 - Download the mobile app:
Start by downloading and installing Microsoft authenticator on your mobile phone, either through Google Play or the App Store depending on your phone. In the App Store on the iPhone, there is an app that is very similar, be sure to download the one with the logo below and comes from Microsoft.

Step 2 - Start a login:
On your computer, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info External link, opens in new window.
You should get a login box at Microsoft, enter your full e-mail address, firstname.lastname@ltu.se, select Work or school account.
Note! Employees who have missed configuring MFA in time will be put into "force MFA" and will then receive the message "More information required" upon login, this also happens if MFA is restored for some reason. Skip directly to step 4 instead. This currently does not apply to students.
Step 3 - Add device:
Once inside "Security info", press Add method and choose Authenticator app (for smartphone) or Security Key for those who do not have a phone but want to use a YubiKey instead. Guide for YubiKey will be provided later.
After selecting the method, press Add.
Step 4 - Configure MFA on smartphone:
You should now see the box below, if you downloaded and installed Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile phone in step 1, click Next until you get a QR code and continue to the next step.

Step 5 - Scan the QR code with the mobile app:
You will now see a box with a QR code and a prompt to configure the app on your cell phone, take out your cell phone again.
Open Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile phone, select Scan a QR code. If this option is not available, select Add work or school account and then Scan a QR code. See the image below for an example of what this might look like.

Step 6 - Test and complete:
A test approval will now be sent to your mobile phone, you will then receive a notification on your phone that you are trying to log in - click on it, enter the numbers displayed on your computer and approve the login.
You are done!
