Medals at Luleå University of Technology

The Vice-Chancellor may award a Medal of Merit and a Jubilee Medal to individuals who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to the university. The medals are awarded during the Academic Ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Jubilee Medal

On the occasion of the university’s 50th anniversary in 2021, a jubilee medal was established, to be awarded every ten years following a decision by the Vice-Chancellor. The medal is to be awarded to individuals who, through their commitment and particularly valuable contributions, have promoted the activities and development of Luleå University of Technology.

2021: Anders Sundström, Honorary Doctor

The next jubilee medal will be awarded in 2031.

Luleå University of Technology’s Medal of Merit

The Medal of Merit is awarded for outstanding contributions to Luleå University of Technology or for meritorious work within one of the university’s areas of activity. The Vice-Chancellor decides who is to receive the medal.

Luleå University of Technology’s Medal for Collaboration

The medal is awarded to individuals who, through their commitment, have contributed to strengthening collaboration between the university and the surrounding society. The decision to award the medal is made by the Vice-Chancellor. The recipient of the medal has their primary employment outside academia.

Recipients

The Medal for Collaboration was established in 2026 and has not yet been awarded to any recipient.

Previous medals

In May 1994, the Board of the then 'Högskolan i Luleå' established a medal to recognise outstanding contributions to 'Högskolan i Luleå'.

The medal has been awarded on six occasions, the first time in November 1994. The medal was discontinued in 2020 and replaced by Luleå University of Technology’s Medal of Merit.
