From Manila to Luleå: Philippine Delegation
Explores Swedish Mining Excellence
A high-level delegation from the Philippines visits Sweden to deepen cooperation on sustainable mining. During a stop in Luleå, the delegation is welcomed by Luleå University of Technology and the research center CAMM.
Knowledge exchange in sustainable mining
Sweden and the Philippines have an ongoing partnership where sustainable mining is a key focus area. As part of this collaboration, a high-level mining delegation from the Philippines is visiting Sweden to exchange knowledge and insights on sustainable mining, safety, and innovation.
The delegation, consisting of representatives from the government, academia, and industry, is spending four days in Sweden. Their visit includes Luleå University of Technology, where the Centre of Advanced Mining and Metallurgy (CAMM) is hosting them today. We are an official academic partner in the Sweden-Philippines collaboration, working to strengthen exchanges in research, student recruitment, and academic partnerships.

"We see Sweden as a bastion of sustainable mining"
Michael V Cabalda is the Assistant Secretary for Mining Concerns and Concurrent OIC Director at MGB, Mines and Geosciences Bureau in the Phillipines. He is excited about what he has seen and learnt here in Sweden and at Luleå University of Technology:
"We see Sweden as a bastion of sustainable mining. We want to see how they are doing it and how that knowledge and technology can be transferred to the Philippines. At the end of the day, with the support of the government, everything will be done in the context of sustainable and responsible mining, taking care of communities. From what I've seen and the work being done at the university, I can tell that significant progress has been made—progress that can benefit an industry in the Philippines that is now receiving well-deserved attention from the current administration."

Building on Previous High-Level Engagements
This visit builds on the High-Level Swedish Delegation visit in Manila participated by CAMM directors Thomas Aiglsperger and David Saiang together with Cecilia Ekholm, Ambassador for Sustainable Business and LTU’s participation in the 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) in Baguio last year.
"We look forward to fostering future collaborations for a more sustainable mining industry! says Thomas Aiglsperger."
During their time in Sweden, the delegation will also visit Business Sweden headquarter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Philippines in Stockholm. They will also visit industries like Epiroc mine, Falun Mine, and LKAB.
