Digital Stability Charting for Rapid and Risk-Informed Mine Design in Critical Raw Material Extraction (DiStab-CRM)
Deep underground extraction of critical raw materials requires rapid and reliable design decisions under limited and evolving geomechanical information. Conventional stability graph methods remain valuable in preliminary mine design, but their practical use is still largely manual, static, and weak in handling design-stage uncertainty.
This seed project will develop a digital stability charting framework for rapid and risk-informed mine design in critical raw material extraction. With cases-based input from Boliden Zinkgruvan Mine and involving an LTU geological partner for CAMM-CRM Seed Funding Application 2026, LTU-1805-2026 2 geological information interpretation, the project will convert a proven empirical design approach into a transparent digital workflow that structures geological and geomechanical input, supports fast screening, and prepares future probabilistic and AI-assisted extensions. The project will deliver a prototype tool, a case-based demonstration, and a follow-up external funding roadmap.
