Swedish Mining Research & Innovation Days (SMRID) 2026
The Swedish Mining Research & Innovation Days (SMRID) 2026 brought together researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, and innovation stakeholders in Luleå to discuss the future of mining and minerals. The two-day event was organized by CAMM-CRM at Luleå University of Technology in collaboration with Swedish Metals & Minerals and Svemin.
SMRID serves as an important platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration across the mining and minerals value chain. Participants explored topics including mineral exploration, mining, mineral processing, recycling, critical raw materials, innovation, and sustainable resource management.
A key focus of the conference was the role of critical raw materials in supporting the green and digital transitions. Discussions highlighted the importance of research and innovation in strengthening resilient supply chains, improving resource efficiency, and enabling sustainable mineral production.
The second day focused on resilience within the European raw materials ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and national borders. Presentations addressed topics such as circular economy initiatives, innovation funding opportunities, standardization, and the role of geoscience in responsible resource development.
Throughout the event, participants shared knowledge, explored new ideas, and identified opportunities for future collaboration. The conference highlighted the crucial role that partnerships between academia, industry, policymakers, and society play in building a sustainable and competitive mining and minerals sector.
CAMM-CRM would like to thank all speakers, participants, partners, and organizers who contributed to making SMRID 2026 a successful and inspiring event.
