PhD: Khalifa Maissara
Subject: Engineering Materials
Research Environment: Centre for High Performance Steels (CHS), Luleå University of Technology
Research Area: Press Hardening and Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS)
The research was conducted as part of the PROCHAIN project, a collaboration between industry and academia administered by the Centre for High Performance Steels (CHS) at Luleå University of Technology. The work was carried out in close collaboration with leading players in the steel and automotive industries.
The dissertation, *Press Hardening of Advanced High-Strength Steels: Process Development and Characterization*, focuses on the press hardening of advanced high-strength steels a technique used to manufacture components with very high strength and low weight.
Through experimental studies, Khalifa Maissara has analyzed how various process parameters and heat treatments affect the steel’s microstructure and mechanical properties. The research provides a better understanding of the relationships between the manufacturing process, material structure, and performance, which is important for the development of future high-strength steel structures.
The results contribute new knowledge that can be used to improve manufacturing processes and create materials with better combinations of strength, toughness, and formability. The research is therefore relevant to both academia and industry, particularly in areas where the demand for lightweight and sustainable structures continues to grow.
