Steels - From Fundamentals to Future Innovations
TVM0003 (7.5 HP), Steels - From Fundamentals to Future Innovations
Entry requirements: Basic knowledge in steel.
Course background: The course offers a basic overview of steels, focusing on their fundamental principles, processing techniques, and modern innovations. Designed for PhD students and researchers in materials engineering, the course is structured in three main modules: (i) Understanding Steel - Key Fundamentals, (ii) Steel Innovation - Transition to High-Strength Low-Alloy Steels, (iii) Ultrafine-Grained Steels and Severe Plastic Deformation, Computational Design of Advanced Steels.
Course content: The course will cover microstructure-property relationships, phase transformations, alloy design, and processing techniques, heat treatments, welding, and corrosion control in steels. It will focus on the transition from conventional to high strength steels, exploring the impact of alloying, advanced processing, and microstructural design. Includes an in-depth look at modern steel types. The course will introduce deformation techniques for producing nanostructured steels with exceptional properties. Discusses strengthening mechanisms and the role of plastic deformation in enhancing performance and sustainability in steel recycling.
Assessment will be based on performance in seminars and laboratory exercises, using a Pass/Fail grading scale.
Course Highlights:
Expert-Led Lectures - Covering fundamental and advanced topics in steels
Guest Professors - Learn from leading experts in the field
Interactive Sessions - Engage in discussions and hands-on learning opportunities
