New logistics for distribution and storage of green hydrogen
The project Electrocatalytic Production of liquid Organic hydrogen carrier and Chemicals from lignin (EPOCH) aims to develop a new process for hydrogen production through direct charging of a liquid organic hydrogen carrier. This enabling a new logistics for the distribution and storage of green hydrogen.
"The process in EPOCH is an innovative technology because it does not generate molecular hydrogen at the cathode, nor oxygen at the anode. By modifying both cathodic and anodic reactions, EPOCH reduces the energy intensity of the process", says Xiaoyan Ji.
EPOCH will enable improved electrochemical cell performance and increased added value by enhancing energy efficiency, enabling cost reductions, and intensifying the process. The aim is to develop and validate an innovative technology for direct production of green hydrogen carriers, based on renewable energy, without the use of fossil fuels.
