The Swedish Hydrogen Conference 2026
The Innovation & Excellence Edition
Sweden’s national forum for research, innovation, and industrial development in the field of hydrogen.
December 1 and 2, 2026
House of People, Barnhusgatan 12–14, Stockholm
Luleå University of Technology and the Center for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden (CH2ESS) invite you to the 2026 Swedish Hydrogen Conference.
Over the course of two days, companies, researchers, government agencies, investors, and innovation stakeholders will gather to discuss how Sweden can develop competitive and robust solutions in the hydrogen sector.
The conference builds on the Swedish Hydrogen Conference, which has been held annually since 2023 in collaboration between CH2ESS at Luleå University of Technology, RISE, Energiforsk, Energiföretagen Sverige, Energigas Sverige, and Vätgas Sverige.
The conference also continues the work of Hydrogen SIC! During the winters of 2025 and 2026, Luleå University of Technology, KTH, Chalmers, Umeå University, RISE, Swerim, and Lindholmen Science Park—together with companies and public sector actors—laid the foundation for a national cluster of excellence in hydrogen. The goal is to strengthen Sweden’s ability to develop world-class fossil-free hydrogen solutions.
Program
Day 1
Market and Innovation
The first day of the conference focuses on the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of Sweden’s hydrogen system. Through presentations, panel discussions, and debates, researchers, industry representatives, and government officials will come together to highlight how hydrogen can contribute to competitiveness, energy security, and the climate transition.
Themes for the day
• Industrial initiatives and experiences from Swedish companies
• Innovation and commercialization of new technologies
• Investments and financing
• Energy systems and security of supply
• Safety, regulations, and permitting processes
• Hydrogen storage
• International development and cooperation through the IEA Hydrogen TCP
During the day, two projects within the Nordic Hydrogen Valleys program will also be presented. Over the past three years, these projects have brought together researchers, companies, and public sector actors to accelerate the development of Nordic hydrogen solutions.
The findings address, among other things, safety, permitting processes, and public acceptance regarding the large-scale use of hydrogen. They also cover energy supply, economics, and energy storage.
The projects present a Nordic roadmap with recommendations on what needs to be done to enable a faster expansion of the hydrogen infrastructure by 2030 and 2040.
The day concludes with a networking reception and conference dinner at the same venue.
Day 2
Together, we’re building the next generation of hydrogen initiatives
The second day of the conference focuses on Hydrogen SIC!, collaboration, and future initiatives. Through inspiration, international perspectives, and interactive workshops, participants will work together on issues critical to Sweden’s continued development in the hydrogen sector.
Topics to be discussed during the day include
• Shared vision, impact, and activities
• Technical and social science challenges
• How Sweden can strengthen research, development, and innovation in hydrogen
• National and international collaborations
• Next-generation research and innovation projects
The workshops are intended to solidify and deepen collaboration between academia, industry, government agencies, and funding bodies. The results will form part of the ongoing work with Hydrogen SIC! and the development of a Swedish cluster of excellence for hydrogen.
