About The Swedish Centre for Sports- and Performance Technology
SPORTC is a new research centre at Luleå University of Technology aimed at conducting multidisciplinary, activity-centred research, focused on technology and performance within sports and health.
SPORTC aims to serve as a dynamic platform for promoting activity-centric research, focused on performance and technology within sports. In addition to establishing a national arena for multidisciplinary sports research, our intention is to act as a central hub for collaboration with sports organisations (SOK/RF), sports associations, regional and municipal bodies, and the broader business community.
The core activities include research in physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and technology intended to enhance athletic performance and promote physical activity and health. This includes a number of projects in close collaboration with SOK, the Swedish Ski Association, and the Biathlon Association.
"The collaboration with LTU has been a significant factor in securing more Olympic medals in 2022 and World Championship medals in 2023 than ever before." (Ski experts Johan Wåhlström and Mats Eklund SOK, Swedish Biathlon Association/Swedish Ski Association)
Another part of our mission encompasses the development of a comprehensive infrastructure within Luleå University of Technology's campus areas, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for training, research, and development and to integrate sports research into our educational programmes.
SPORTC is the driving force behind our endeavour to establish a national platform for sports-related research, collaboration, and growth. Our vision goes beyond scientific advancements to contribute to bringing sports, research and society together.
"The new centre formation SPORTC for sports-related research at Luleå University of Technology is perfectly timed with the exciting international developments in training and sports technology. There are substantial synergies in a region with a strong university, a development-oriented business environment, and a great interest in sports and outdoor activities" (H-C Holmberg, "The Olympic Professor" and one of Sweden's most successful sports researchers.)
