Clear results are emerging on how Europe’s railways can better withstand climate change
Within the EU-RAIL Flagship project Rail4Earth, climate-related risks and vulnerabilities affecting railway infrastructure are being mapped at an unprecedented scale.
At Luleå University of Technology, this work is led by our researcher Amir Garmabaki, in close collaboration with Trafikverket and European partners.
By identifying the most significant risks and aligning methods and best practices across countries, the project supports a shared European approach to climate adaptation and a more robust railway system under both gradual climate change and extreme weather events.
