Researchers: Ramin Karim (PL), Chathuri Madhushika (PhD candidate)
Project Sponsor: Vinnova, Trafikverket Excellence area 8
Project Period: 2024–2027
Goal
The goal of AIF/RE3I is to contribute to the implementation of European Green Deal (EGD) in Sweden by establishing a dynamic open distributed data lab for data and model sharing that can primarily serve the Swedish railway stakeholders and secondary also other international stakeholders.
Project status and results
Railway is a complex technical system with vast number of technical items, which introduces new challenges in various managerial aspects such as risk management, asset management, operation, and maintenance management. Hence, the long-term goal of the ‘AI Factory /RAILWAY (AIF/RE3I)’ initiative is to contribute to the implementation of EGD in Sweden by establishing a dynamic open distributed data lab for data and model sharing that can primarily serve the Swedish railway stakeholders and secondary also other international stakeholders. For this reason, AIF/RE3I primary strategy is to evolve the findings from the previous project phase toward enhancing: a) the digital infrastructure; b) the information logistics; and c) the AI-empowered analytics of railway infrastructure and rolling stock.
Currently, the project is understanding and exploring the issues and challenges with the applications of large language models and analysing how they are interconnected with each other (see Figure). The project is conducting a state-of-the-art review of current research to identify use cases implementation in railway maintenance and pinpoint existing gaps. It has also initiated the design of an architectural diagram that outlines workflows and user stories for various end-users based on the supporting documents related to their requirements.
