Accounting practices in the everyday life of refugees
The project studies how accounting practices are connected with refugees' everyday life and emphasizes the social significance of accounting. We address the question: What is the role of accounting in the daily life of refugees?
Refugees are "shadowed" in both the city and the countryside with methods such as observation, conversation and study of artefacts which together make it possible to listen in, track artefacts in time and space and identify the accounting practices that refugees encounter.
The study sheds light on how accounting practices are shaped and at the same time delve deeply into how the techniques affect everyday life. An accounting focus on migration can thus make visible social issues relevant to migration.
The project is financed by Handelsbanken's research foundations. Project manager is Stig Westerdahl, Malmö University. Participating researchers are Amanda Curry (Luleå Univesity of Technology), Mikaela Herbert (Malmö University) and Johan Sandström (Luleå Univesity of Technology). The project runs between 2022 and 2024.
