International Acid Sulfate Soils Conference Brought Global Experts to Luleå
In September 2025, Luleå hosted the 10th International Acid Sulfate Soils Conference (IASSC), one of the leading global forums for research, management, and policy development related to acid sulfate soils.
From 15–17 September, researchers, industry representatives, environmental specialists, and policymakers gathered to exchange knowledge and discuss emerging challenges in the field.
The conference featured a rich program of oral and poster presentations, along with thematic sessions covering topics such as soil classification, risk assessment, geochemistry, microbiology, and management strategies in both rural and urban environments.
Participants also joined excursions across northern Sweden and Finland, including visits in the Luleå region, Oulu, and Vaasa, offering firsthand insights into practical approaches for handling acid sulfate soils.
The event was organised by researchers at Luleå University of Technology in collaboration with Nordic partners.
