27th International Conference on Spectral Line Shapes
August 9th-14th, 2026 in Luleå, Sweden
The 27th International Conference on Spectral Line Shapes (ICSLS) will take place at Luleå University of Technology from Sunday, August 9th (evening reception) to Friday, August 14th. ICSLS is a biannual conference series started in Paris-Meudon, France, in 1973, and it is held alternating at European, North-American, and (lately) Asian locations. The last three editions were held in Dublin, Ireland (2018), Caserta, Italy (2022), and Otsu, Japan (2024).
Luleå is located on the coast of the Bothnian Bay, about 100 km south of the Arctic Circle, and an 80 min flight from Stockholm. Luleå has an impressive archipelago and mid-August displays its beautiful and special nature at its best. It is also home of the UNESCO world heritage site Gammelstad Church Town. A 430 km drive or train ride northwest, into Swedish Lapland, past the mining town Kiruna, you find lovely Abisko National Park. Luleå is at the center of a vibrant region, where large investments are made in industrial and infrastructure projects to facilitate a sustainable future.
ICSLS 2026 will cover a broad range of topics related to spectral line shape studies, including:
- atoms and molecules in neutral gaseous mixtures
- single and multi-photoionization processes
- high and low temperature plasmas
- high temperature environments
- spectroscopy of astrophysical objects and environments
- clusters and helium droplets
- cold atoms and molecules
- collision-induced spectra
- nanophotonic processes
- spectroscopy of materials
- new methods for calculating line shapes
- new techniques for line shape measurements
- applications in fundamental metrology
- applications in industry, atmospheric and environmental monitoring, combustion, and medical diagnostics
The conference will include a mix of invited lectures, contributed talks, and poster presentations.
Registration
Early bird registration is expected to open in February of 2026. We are hoping to offer significant discount for students.

Travel & Accommodation
International travelers will in (almost) all cases travel through Stockholm. Then there are two alternatives:
- Flying from Stockholm, Arlanda to Luleå, Kallax. Two airlines offer flights: Scandinavian (SAS, skyteam) and Norwegian
- Train from Stockholm Central Station to Luleå Central Station. Night trains with beds, sharing with 2 or 5 in one compartment, are available.
Various hotels in central Luleå will be recommended later. A 15 minute bus ride takes you from the airport to central Luleå. And the university campus is located another 10 minute bus ride from central Luleå.
Venue
The conference will take place on the campus of Luleå University of Technology.
