Urban Planning for Pedestrian Traffic
The project builds on previous research showing that, while there is extensive theoretical and academic knowledge on how to increase pedestrian traffic and improve safety for this mode of travel, local and practical understanding of the subject—as well as the practical implications and processes involved—is severely lacking.
Key questions:
- What is the current (professional and practical) situation regarding pedestrian traffic from a professional/societal urban planning and policy perspective in Sweden?
- What is the political perspective on pedestrian traffic in Sweden at the local level?
- What is the gap between vision and practical reality regarding walking as a mode of transportation at the local level?
- How can Swedish urban planning policies and guidelines become European best practices, and what is required to reach this level?
