Research Education within Planning for Walking
The project builds on previous research highlighting the fact that whilst there is substantial theoretical and academic knowledge concerning how pedestrian traffic can increase and how the safety situation of the traffic type can be improved, the knowledge of the local and practical understanding of the subject - and the practical implications and processes - is severely lacking.
Main research questions:
- What is the (professional and practical) state of the art of walking from a professional/community town planning and policy perspective in Sweden?
- What is the political view of walking in Sweden at the local level?
- What happens between vision and practical reality in terms of walking as a mode of transport at the local level?
- How can Swedish town planning policy and guidance become European best practice and what is required to reach this level?
