ALICE – Attractive Living in Cold Climate

At about the same time as the New Giron project was completed, Professor Maria Viklander, Urban Water Engineering, has been granted SEK 25 million for continued research on the new cities of the Ore Fields.

The urban transformations in Kiruna and Malmberget/Gällivare are unique ventures in the Western world and at the same time an exciting challenge to build smarter, better and attractive communities. Knowledge from the New Giron project will be utilized and further developed. This includes urban planning, water and wastewater issues, infrastructure for travel and construction for extreme climate conditions.

The research is funded by the Swedish Research Council Formas and is carried out in close collaboration with stakeholders from the business community.
