SICTA Next Generation Urban Mobility (SICTA-NGUM)

How children move through the city affects both their health and independence. This project translates research on Active Independent Mobility (AIM) into sustainable urban planning practices. Through digitally supported collaboration between children, municipalities and urban planners, the project develops solutions that create safer, more accessible and attractive environments where children’s perspectives become a natural part of municipal comprehensive planning.

The objective of this project is to operationalize research findings regarding children's health and AIM into scalable and sustainable urban planning frameworks, with a specific focus on integrating children’s perspectives into municipal overview plans.

Grounded in a participatory methodology, the project employs digital tools to support co-design to engage children, municipal stakeholders, and urban planners in collaborative processes. This approach ensures that interventions are empirically informed by local needs and contextual conditions.

The goal is to integrate AIM solutions directly into strategic planning to ensure that both new developments and infrastructure retrofits result in safe, accessible, and attractive environments that facilitate children’s freedom of movement.

Furthermore, the project aims to validate the effectiveness of the implemented solutions and develop strategies for scalability and generalization, both within and beyond the initial pilot areas.
