LCA of bark as a feedstock for biorefinery systems
Project team: Leonidas Matsakas (project Leader), Io Antonopoulou, Paul Christakopoulos, Ulrika Rova
Partners: Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences; Umeå University
Duration: 2019-2020
Funded by Bio4Energy
The aim of the current project is to establish and demonstrate a sustainable softwood bark biorefinery for the production of high-added value products and parallel to that apply existing tools for the environmental and economic assessment of the final products. In this project we will apply the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology to assess the potential environmental impact of the final products over their entire life cycle and the life cycle costing (LCC) methodology to assess the costs related to the final products, also over their entire life cycle. These two methodologies have similar structures and complete each other.
