Advancing carbon dioxide valorization towards alcohols using bioelectrochemical synthesis
Project leader: Lisbeth Olsson, Chalmers
Project team: Paul Christakopoulos, Adolf Krige, Kerstin Ramser (Experimental Mechanics LTU)
Duration: 2021-2025
Funded by the Swedish Energy Agency
The purpose of this project is to understand the microbial electron transfer using Raman spectroscopy and to develop an understanding of how stable biofilms in BES set-ups can be achieved. One approach will be to use 3D printed artificial biofilms that will be integrated with the electrode, forming an optimal environment for electron transfer. Together, this will be a fundament to achieve more efficient BES of CO2 to ethanol and the knowledge will be used to design more efficient bioelectrochemical synthesis schemes.
