BIOCCC
Biocatalytic Carbon Capture and Conversion of steel flue gas to liquid hydrocarbons.
Project team: Paul Christakopoulos (project leader), Evangelos Topakas, Ulrika Rova, Magnus Sjöblom
Duration: 2016-2018
Funded by Formas
The main goal of the project is to develop a novel and practical technique for CO2 separation from flue gases in the steel industry, along with bioelectrochemical conversion of CO2 into liquid hydrocarbons such as formic acid. Enzymes stable under extreme conditions and microorganisms capable of utilizing renewable electricity for the synthesis of higher organic molecules from CO2 are employed in the project.
