Io Antonopoulou mottog priset i maj månad
Io Antonopoulou received an award as outstanding young researcher by the Royal Swedish Skyttean Society
Io Antonopoulou, Associate Professor in Biochemical Process Engineering, has received the Royal Skyttean Society's award for young outstanding researchers in Natural Sciences and Engineering 2025.
The motivation reads:
’Io Antonopoulou has an outstanding record of research in green chemistry to contribute to the green transition and net zero emissions. She has a high publication rate and has received competitive research funding for projects such as carbon dioxide storage using enzymes, biomining of rare earth metals and hydrogen storage from several major research funders. She works as a supervisor for doctoral students and postdocs. She thus shows great potential for continued scientific development’.
The Royal Skyttean Society is one of Sweden’s Royal Academies, founded in 1956 to promote scientific and cultural development in northern Sweden. It supports excellence in research by awarding prizes, organizing academic events, and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.
Io Antonopoulou participated in an award ceremony in Umeå on 23 May 2025.
“I’m truly honored to receive this recognition—it inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable research and innovation.” says Io.
The prize is SEK 25,000 and it will be recognized during Luleå University of Technology's Academic Ceremony on Friday 7 November 2025.
