Low clinker content cement

Development of novel clinkering process for production of sustainable Swedish cement based on alternative industrial and natural raw materials
The ultimate aim of this PhD project is to support cement industry in their climate transition towards carbon neutral production. The project objective is to develop a modified clinkering technology that combines usage of mixture of alternative raw materials and modified clinkering process to achieve the carbon neutral production goal. The alternative raw materials will include industrial wastes, side streams as well as selected natural resources, that have not been yet used in the production of cement in Sweden. The modification of the clinkering process will include process optimization that will be required for this new mix of raw materials. Additionally, the process will be optimized conceptually to accommodate other developments e.g., carbon capture or using plasma torches in kiln. The project will also include a limited study of concretes based on the produced cements to assess durability and identify possible risks and limitations. The LCA analysis will be done as well.
