Tiny House 1.0
In the Tiny House 1.0 project, we explore innovative design of small houses (about 30 - 50 sqm) as an attractive, flexible and sustainable form of housing in northern Sweden.
The focus of the project is broad and includes everything from smart solutions inside homes, such as multifunctional furniture, to the design of the houses themselves, as well as how multiple houses can be grouped into communities that foster social interaction and collaboration. The aim is not only to reduce the ecological footprint, but also to promote healthy and sustainable ways of living.
This form of housing has great potential for several target groups, including young adults buying their first home, homeowners whose children have moved out and want to downsize, elderly people who no longer want or are able to take care of their home, people who want to move closer to nature, not to mention industrial workers and tourists. These target groups have a wide variety of interests and needs, and the project uses co-creative and participatory design methods to find out how these houses and communities can be best designed.
The project supports local economic development by inviting SMEs to get involved in growing markets such as sustainable tourism, but also in the business opportunities that come with the construction of these new houses. Cross-pollination of ideas between different stakeholders can lead to improvements in construction techniques, material use, and community building, which can be replicated in other regions with similar challenges.
